Rodolfo F. Marrero - Tech Entrepreneur

Hi there! I’m Rodolfo, a young Entrepreneur passionate about all things tech! I’ve been around computers my whole life. My first computer was an IBM XT that if I recall correctly had no internal hard drive. My first “job” was sorting out hundreds of Floppy disks based on their contents, which meant countless hours in front of the PC, exploring. That’s also how I lost a bit of my eyesight…

I was lucky to be around computers so young. I got to play with all sorts of interesting computers, and my first passion was hardware. If you didn’t know hardware you couldn’t get your computer to start, or you couldn’t repair it, so for the first few years, playing with hardware was what was fun. Of course, games were a lot of fun too. I got to play a lot with this bad boy. It took a while to figure out what it was, since it’s been so long.

Other than games, I played with Lotus, Windows 3.11, and the Office suite very early on, and I got a hang of PowerPoint. That was about the first thing I got really skilled at. Later that become other software, until I learned HTML itself, and later Visual Basic. Visual Basic was never my friend, so I stumbled upon C (which I liked a lot), and eventually I gravitated towards PHP given I was doing some web projects. That became my programming language of choice, and at that point my passion changed from hardware to building software.

With PHP I used my first framework (Symfony), and built my first CMS, which I took to production and ran for years. I learned with it how to build good software, and how to build really bad software (with the help of Mongo, of course). Around that time I started Excel, and I had lots of needs and little knowledge to build software at scale, so I branched out to many different areas of software, such as infrastructure, data engineering, data analysis, and eventually machine learning. I have many software I like, and just as many I hate. I was very impressed with Chef the first time I saw it. I fell in love with Kibana (ELK stack) at first sight, and I’ve been a Kubernetes evangelist for years now. With just as much passion as I have for Kubernetes, I hate WordPress equally. Let’s say it is a love/hate relationship. Nowadays I’ve moved on to Typescript for programming, but I play as much in Python as I can.

Skills and Expertise

Yes, I’m a technologist, but first of all, I’m a problem solver. Solving problems is what motivates me, I just happen to use technology to do it 🖥️. I’ve worn many hats throughout my career, and I hope to wear many more in years to come. I’ve specialized in building software at scale, which means building really good backends, a world-class infrastructure, and having top notch data processing and reporting systems. My current focus is on exploring the world of AI and figuring out how to improve productivity on Data Analysis and gaining Business Insights 📈

Innovation and Problem-Solving

I hate over-complicating things. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree final project in a single day, and went back and picked up another one. I dislike reinventing the wheel, and in my mind, simple is always better. I like getting creative, but real creativity is about finding simple solutions to problems. Any idiot can over-complicate anything.

Continuous Learning

If you ain’t doing it, you are already behind.
